The answer to that question, just in case you were wondering, is NO!!! I am most certainly not ready to go.
Yes, I'm looking forward to going, for those of you who are worried. Of course I'm excited about traveling to a continent I've never been on and spending time with people I love. I'm excited about all of the adventures I have. I can't wait to see what it's like to live outside of the country, especially since that's what I want to do long term when I get out of med school. I'm really anxious to do some shadowing down there and see how South American medical practices are similar to and different from US practices.
And I do have necessary things like acceptance to the Study Abroad program and my passport.
However, with a little over a month a half left until I leave, I still know virtually no Spanish. The kindergarten boy that is going with us knows infinitely more than I do (granted, he is being raised bilingual, but still). So I'm a little stressed out about that. And by a little, I mean a lot.
I also haven't given much thought at all to what I'm packing, nor have I figured out where I want to travel. I have to do homework over the break for my international studies class, so that should help with some of this stuff, but I still have a lot of stuff to get done before mid-January.
But all in all, despite the challenges, I really am looking forward to next semester! We'll see how it goes soon enough.
